Round Ligament Pain

The sharp tugs that catch you off guard

The sudden sharp pull in your lower abdomen or groin when you move too fast — round ligament pain is normal, but when it's constant or debilitating it's a sign the pelvis needs attention.

Understanding Round Ligament Pain

What it is & why it shows up

Round ligament pain is technically normal — the round ligaments support the uterus and stretch as it grows. Most women get the occasional sharp tug when they stand up too fast, cough, or roll over. That's expected. What's not inevitable is constant aching, pain with most movements, or ligament pain so sharp it stops you in your tracks multiple times a day.

When round ligament pain becomes severe or constant, it usually means the pelvis isn't balanced underneath it. An asymmetric pelvis puts uneven tension on the round ligaments — one side pulling more than the other, or both sides pulling too hard because the sacrum is locked. Gentle pelvic realignment through Webster Technique relieves that uneven tension and takes the ligaments out of constant stretch.

Care usually produces fast results for round ligament pain — it responds well to structural correction because the cause is mechanical, not hormonal.

Important

When to seek medical care first

If your round ligament pain is severe, constant, or accompanied by fever, nausea, vomiting, bleeding, or reduced fetal movement, contact your OB or midwife first to rule out other causes of pregnancy abdominal pain.
